About Uganda

Uganda lies astride the Equator in Eastern Africa between longitudes 29 ½° East and 35° East and between latitudes 4 ½° North and ½° South, at an average altitude of 1,100 meters above sea- level. The total area is 236,580sq.Km. Uganda is a land-locked country located in East Africa. She is bordered by the Democratic Republic of Congo in the West, Kenya in the East, Republic of South Sudan in the North, Tanzania in the South and Rwanda in the South-West. Uganda is best known for the River Nile.

Population

According to the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS), in 2012 Uganda’s population approximately stands at 34 million people with population growth rate of a 3.6% which is the highest in the world.

Uganda has long been a cultural melting pot, as evidenced by the existence of more than 30 different indigenous languages belonging to five distinct linguistic groups, and an equally diverse culture of music, dance, art and handicrafts.
