Itineraries: 20 Days UG Game-primate-Hike Safari

DAY 1: ARRIVAL

Arrive at the airport where you’ll be welcomed by our tour guide who will transfer you to your hotel of your choice in either Kampala in your desired accommodation according to your budget. And depending on the time of arrival, you may change your money into Ugandan Shillings to be used in your safari, if it is still early; you can have a tour at the Uganda wildlife education centre. Spend your night at;

Day 2: Drive to L. Mburo national park

Take break fast and depart for Lake Mburo National Park which is an extension of the Tanzanian plains with almost the highest number of zebra, impala, eland and others. There are also so many birds which makes a good spot for the birders as well. This also is one of the best places to find African fin foot, papyrus bush shrike and the legendary Shoe bill. We will check in at the camp and relax for a little while before going for a boat ride on the lake. Dinner and overnight at;

Day 3: Game drive and walk to the salt lick

You will go for the morning game drive in search for animals and birds, there are lots of zebras in Uganda has over 310 bird species in Lake Mburo National Park. It is probably the best place in Uganda from where you can see Acacia associated birds and also of special interest to birders, are the swamps. The swamps are home to the highly localized Papyrus Yellow Warbler recorded nowhere else in Uganda. Have lunch and then in the evening, you will take a guided nature walk to the salt lick area where most animals in is park go to lick salt. Dinner and overnight will be at your lodge/camp.

Day 4: Set off for Bwindi

Get your breakfast very early, on your way driving to Bwindi; make a stopover at Igongo cultural centre before reaching Mbarara town- here you will have a closer look at the sculptures and artifacts which represent the richness of Ankole culture. Continue facing Kabale, you may need to have another stopover at Bunyonyi overland for a view of the captivating western rift valley landscapes while you take your lunch. Continue and check in your lodge/camp in Bwindi;

Day 5: Gorilla Tracking

You will have to wake up early for breakfast before you go for gorilla tracking. Your guide will take you to the ranger station at 08.00 am and also get guides to take you through the forest as you track gorillas. This trek can take from half an hour to five hours therefore a reasonable degree of fitness is required as well as a sturdy pair of walking shoes. You sit in the forest among the gorillas listening to them grumble at each other and marvel at the sheer size of the dominant male, the silverback and this will be for just 1 hour. It is amazing to think that there are only 650 or so of these creatures left in the world! If you have the afternoon free, you will take a guided village walk to see how the Ugandans live. Dinner and Overnight will be back at your lodge.

Day 6: Transfer to the Queen

Get your breakfast early morning and set off for Queen Elizabeth NP via the famous Ishasha sector popular for their residents-climbing lions and enjoy the game drive as you meet various animals on your way. You can have lunch at Ishasha wilderness camp. Continue driving to check in your accommodation at;

Day 7: Game drives

Early in the morning after breakfast, you will drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park passing through the crater Valley with beautiful lakes and rich grasslands which are set deep. Queen Elizabeth hosts a large variety and volume of wildlife, bio diversity ranging from the open Savannah to Rain forest, dense swamps and beautiful crater lakes to the vastness of Lake Edward. There are 100 species of wild animals like the Hippos, Buffaloes, Lions, Leopard, Spotted Hyena and the elusive giant forest hog. There are over 606 species of birds found here including the martial eagle, Verreaux’s eagle owl, black-rumped buttonquail and African skimmer among others. The primates include Chimps, Blue Magabeys, Black and white Colobus Monkeys, Black Faced Red Colobus, and Red Tailed monkeys and Olive Baboons. You lunch will be at your lodge and have an evening game drive so as to have an opportunity to see the spot Elephants, warthogs, waterbucks, hippos and others. Dinner and overnight at your lodge.

Day 8: Boat cruise and Chimp tracking

After taking an early morning cup of coffee, we will leave for the 08.00am chimpanzee trekking in Kyambura Gorge. Expect to see various primates most especially Chimpanzee, Black and white Colobus monkeys primates like the rd colobus monkeys, blue Mangebeys, black and white colobus monkeys among others. This gorge is a home of very many bird species. After lunch go for a 2-hour boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel and into Lake Edward and during this trip; you will see thousands of Hippos, crocodiles, water birds and many other animals along the banks. This launch cruise offers an excellent platform for photography, bird watching and game viewing, ideal for the Uganda safari. You will go to visit the crater lakes, after this, you will head back to the lodge for your dinner and sleep.

Day 9: Transfer to the Rwenzoris

After your breakfast early morning drive to Rwenzori Mts NP. Get your lunch in one of the lodges; take a tour around the mountains as you discover the rich flora and fauna around the mountain. Spend your night at one of the lodges on the slopes of the mountain.

Day 10: Hike the mountains

Before you launch your trip to the mountains, Ensure that you are in a good health condition, carry your lunch and a hiking stick is a must before you embark on this challenge; discover the peaks like the highest Margherita peak. If you can’t afford going up on the highest peak, you can go for the lowest peaks and the amazing snow caps and the crater lakes. You can your night at any of the lodges around for they are all pocket friendly.

Day 11: Transfer to Kibale

You may have an extended rest because your yesterday’s mountaineering experience. Get breakfast and drive straight to Kibale National Park and check in your accommodation, you will get your lunch from the lodge and in the afternoon have a tour around the forest before you come back to rest. Your dinner and overnight will be at either;

Day 12: Chimpanzee tracking

You will have to take breakfast very early in the morning and then go to Kanyanchu tourists centre for registration, clearance and briefing from the Ranger guides before you go to the forest for Chimpanzee tracking. This is the most famous walk among all Kibale’s walks and it starts at 0800 hours and lasts for 2-3 hours depending on how long it will take you to see the chimpanzees. All the tracking exercise, you will not only see the habituated chimpanzees but also other primates like the Black and white Colobus Monkeys’ Chimpanzees are more closely related to humans than to any other living creature, they are also very interesting to watch as they wrangle and play. Later on you will go back to the lodge for your lunch and then in the afternoon, you will go for Bigodi swamp walk. Dinner and overnight will be back at your lodge.

Day 13: Transfer to the Murchision

Have breakfast and transfer to Murchision Falls National Park, you will carry packed lunch from the lodge and the journey will take about 8- 9 hours passing through the Albertine escarpment. And on a very clear cay, you will have the chance to view the top of the Albert rift which is so fantastic. Have lunch en route before you arrive at the lodge of your choice in the park;

Day 14: Chimp tracking in Kaniyo Pabidi and visit the top of the falls

You will have breakfast early enough so that you can go before 8 am for Chimpanzee tracking in Kaniyo Pabidi Forest which is an untouched piece of natural forest situated just within Budongo Forest Reserve where you walk under mature mahogany and iron wood trees. The major activity in there is the Chimpanzee tracking however; you will also have the opportunity to see various forest birds like the chocolates-backed Kingfisher, the white-thigh hornbill, the chocolates-backed Kingfisher as well as the Puvel’s illadopsis and these are hardly found any where else in East Africa. After lunch, you will visit the top of the fall fro the best view of the falls and the Nile.

Day 15: Game drive and launch cruise

After an early morning cup of coffee to warm up your body, you will be transferred to the northern part of Murchison falls National Park for a game drive. Your guide will help you with all the necessary explanations you may need about the different animals you may meet like the Giraffes, Elephants, Buffaloes, Bushbucks, Lions, and a variety of bird species. At midmorning you will go back to the lodge for your breakfast and then later in the afternoon, you will go for launch cruise to the bottom of the falls of the Murchison falls and here you will have the opportunity to see a lot of hippos, crocodiles, water birds along the river banks and this makes the place good for a birding safari. Overnight will back at your lodge or you can stay in the North Eastern part of the park as you face Kidepo for the following day.

Day 16: Transfer to Kidepo

Drive to Kidepo Valley National Park and check in your accommodation in the evening. Have a thorough rest to be ready for the next day’s game drive..

Day 17: Game Drive

Get your breakfast very early in the morning and embark on the game drive in the spectacular savannah plains of Kidepo. Kidepo is popular for its plains that harbour big wild life like elephants and buffaloes among others. These are popular around in the Apoka area. Spend your night at Apoka lodge.

Day 18: Transfer to Jinja

After your breakfast, embark on this long journey from Kidepo to Jinja. You’ll drive the Moroto – Mbale, make a stopover at Sipi falls where you’ll get your lunch on the slopes of Mount Elgon. From there, continue to Jinja and check into your accommodation;

Day 19: Nile Tour

After your breakfast, you will go for a tour around the source of the Nile, take photos of the beautiful river Nile and then continue to Bujagali falls. From Bujagali falls, you can proceed to Kampala to prepare for an extensive tour of Kampala. Check in the hotel of your choice.

Day 20: Kampala Tour

After getting a cup of coffee, you can visit the Uganda Museum where you’ll find artifacts and sculptures representing Uganda’s diverse culture. You can also visit the Nommo Gallery, Kasubi Tombs. Get lunch from a nearby good hotel to have a taste of local cuisine. After lunch, you can have around the popular downtown markets of Nakasero and Owino. To shop for souvenir luxuries, you can go to crafts centers on Buganda Road and at the National Theater. Over night at your hotel.

Day 21: Ngamba Island Adventure

After getting your breakfast, early morning, set off to the famous Ngamba Island where you’ll find orphaned chimpanzees being fed. As you watch them being fed, you’ll watch different habits of these primates. For instance those that are greedy and those that whistle for food among others. Over night at imperial botanical beach gardens/The Boma Hotel, Windsor Hotel.

Day 22: Get a flight at Entebbe International Airport
